Default M/R (beast master)

Hi mates,
I wish to build a Monk based char acting moustly as a beast master.
I know it will not be a very good ideia, but i wish to do it for fun and i pretend to spend many hours playing with it.
He is already in lvl 20 + max attrib points, and have already a heartly tiger pet, but my doubts go for what skills/atributs may i chose for him?
I think i will go also for the lengendary survivor tittle with him, what will be fun and time consuming.
My first toughts was to use the pet as a tanker plus monk smite enchantments, but i am not so sure now.
If you guys have any good ideas for this kind of build, please share with me.

Thx

Max beastmastery, max Smiting. Run smiting physical damage buffers off your pet - Stength of Honour, Judges Insight, Balth's Aura etc., keep it clean and deal AoE with Smite Hex/Condition, and kill shit with Pet attacks.

Thx for the advice mate, i will try it asap.
For a tanker pet why you prefer the dire version? It's not good to use a heartly one with all that damage from the smiting atribute skills? The dire will do a so huge diference in damage?
Thx mate

Dire does 30% more damage than Hearty, and a lower health means that there's more chance of enemies aggroing on to it, for what it's worth.

off-topic...
The only time now I'd advocate Hearty is in a B/P group, where pets form a wall rather hope to absorb aggro (and this is only since the update to pet corpses, before it was still dire ftw because you'd merely raise a minion from the dead pet... faster minion armies is gud)

Not to ruin the parade, but smiting beastmasters kind of suck. They usually rely on enemies attacking your pet, in which case if that doesn't happen they are useless. Another variant is to buff the pet with skills, in which case you'd still be doing more damage with a R/P Packhunter.

You could just go normal smiting and use the pet as damage soak, only using 2 beast mastery skills. If you know how to micro pets, this can be very usefull in certain areas. But the pet won't really be adding to your damage.

Focus on smiting more than anything. The only way you're going to get your pet to do any real damage is [skill]enraged lunge[/skill], but you need to go full beastmaster to really get the punch out of that one, meaning you might as well ditch the smiting entirely.

Thx Draginvry for your opinion mate, i will take that in consideration.
Yes smiting beast masters normaly sucks, but i like to go in long runs with difficult and weird builds for fun and to get also some tittles with them.
Im trying to find also a solo smiting beastmaster to solo some possible areas of the game, but untill now it looks realy hard to get one. Indeed a chalenging build to make it rule.

If you want to acquire a pet asap, consider capping a spider in UW or a dire L15 orange tiger in Pongmei Valley.

Also there is a gathering of beastmasters every week called "Zoo Crew Unite!". I am sure your monky with a pet will be welcomed there. Have fun

That's an understated way to put it...

quoted for truth. Also add [skill]brutal strike[/skill] for a solid 1-2 punch, albeit to only 1 target at a time.

And you might as well take a ranger primary for headgear, runes, and expertise.

As for hearty vs elder vs dire: It doesn't matter much damage-wise, since, if you are doing any real damage in the first place, it's going to be coming from skills and not base damage. In PvE, you can get slightly better aggro-grabbing ability with an elder or dire, at the cost of decreased survivability. In PvP (and by that I mean RA/TA/AB, since a beastmaster isn't a good idea beyond that), dire is bad idea because pet DP can turn it into a 1-hit kill, pretty much disabling you for the rest of the match.

I scewed around with [skill=text]Symbiosis[/skill] and enchantments in an attampt to get a 500>800 health hearthy pet on a 600>900 health monk.
You should already have high beast mastery so it should work, my problem was that all areas that do not have enchantment removers seem to have an ample amount of condition causers.
I ended up using [skill=text]Glimmer of Light[/skill] and [skill=text]Zealot's fire[/skill] sadly it was never good enough to get the farming build out of it I was trying to make.
Maybe I should have used a dire pet...

[EDIT]
I forgot glimmer has a recharge now, I wonder if you can still use it to make mobs think they are in a AoEDoT and they wil run hopefully agroing the pet.

well there is a couple things you can do if thats the way you want to play a monk I DONT RECCOMEND IT because u cannot 16 beast mastery and the fact you lose 10 armor.

But if thats what you want to do you can always throw prot high enough to make SOR last 8 secs put it on your pet. 40 armor on a pet that rediculous and then you can getput the rest in smite throw a smite rune on your armor and go to work with the holy damge and a massive damage + tank pet.
